Samsung Decides to Hold On To Android for Running Galaxy Tab, as It Competes with Apple’s iPad

A senior executive of Samsung Electronics has declared that the company will be relying solely on Google's Android Operating System to run its mobiles and upcoming editions of tablet computers. It was published in an interview story by Wall Street Journal this Tuesday, as the head of Samsung’s mobile division, J.K. Shin, stated that "We'll continue to work with Android on future tablets."

The world’s second largest mobile manufacturer, Samsung Electronics, is runners up to the market leader from Finland, Nokia. But Samsung still has to catch up with the conquering popularity of Apple's iPhone and iPad, as Apple retains its control over smartphone and tablet markets with its towering consumer base. However, there is no ambiguity regarding the spearhead technology of Android system which turned the mobile OS market upside down and almost took over the entire smartphone business, Samsung is hoping to have the same results with its tablets as it sticks to the Android OS to power them.

Apple amazed all its competitors, including Samsung, with the unbelievable success of its tablet, iPad, and its remarkable launch last year. Samsung was quick to compete with choosing Android for its tablets and releasing its new seven-inched tablet, Galaxy Tab, in October 2010. Further Samsung is intending to also release the next versions of its Galaxy Tab within the next few months. It has announced one 8.9-inch and another 10.1-inch model, both of which will be powered by the latest version of Android OS, nicknamed Honeycomb.
Despite the unparallel dominance of Apple in the tablet market, and Samsung even being the supplier of many components to Apple, both are entangled in lawsuits very badly. Initially Apple sued Samsung asserting that it has mimicked the shape and feel of its main products including iPhone and iPad. Soon in response, Samsung filed another lawsuit, this time claiming that Apple has infringed several of Samsung's patents regarding cellphone transmission technologies. Shin mentioned in his interview, saying that "we didn't copy Apple's design.” While he made the claim that "we have used many similar designs over the past years and it (Apple's allegation) will not be legally problematic."
Samsung has predicted that the sales of tablet will increase almost around five times this year, enhancing the figures up to 7.5 million. On the other hand, the anticipated sales of Apple's iPad are still around 39.7 million this year. Younghee Lee, the senior V.P. of sales and marketing added that "Android is the fastest-growing platform and the market direction is headed toward Android so we're riding the wave.”
