Tumblr Recovers Back to Life after a 12 hour Scheduled Shut Down

The popular blogging/reblogging platform was unavailable for the entire day on Dec. 6th, as it was a previously scheduled day for the maintenance of the website. However, there was not any specified explanation regarding why the maintenance was required, although the issues weren’t completely unknown as the rumors are highly spread about database cluster issues.

The good news is that Tumblr is now completely online, and has returned to the web after a full day's, ‘err, vacation,’ as the called it. Quite noticeably, the traffic for all Tumblr-powered blogs has now gone even beyond the huge number of 500 million page views per month, as stated by Tumblr itself.
Tumblr declared its goal on focusing on the infrastructure now; they plan to end their New York City-based setup, as the engineering team has almost increased for times over just the previous month. And it was also stated in the websites on blog that “We hope these are solid back-end engineers with lots of experience in scalability issues; the last thing Tumblr wants is to reproduce the epic downtime waves of other popular web services that shall remain nameless.”
