After Motorola and HTC, Now Apple Prepares to Face Nokia’s Patent Issues

Apple and Nokia will finally have to confront each other over the legal conflict involving the previously claimed Smartphone patents in the supervision of International Trade Commission. It was one of the very first of several disputes which arose over intellectual property, which if proven could redefine the smartphone market forever.

Originally this conflict roots in October 2009, when Nokia sued Apple, claiming that allegedly the Cupertino-based company had infringed on 10 of its patents with the iPhone. Whereas, later afterwards Apple countersued in December 2009, alleging that the ante by saying Nokia was in violation of 13 of its patents. If considered that Nokia wins the case, that could mean that Apple may lose the right to sell the iPhone in the U.S. On the other hand, If for instance Apple wins this sensitive case, that would imply that all Nokia's devices shall be shut out of the U.S. market altogether.

Motorola Files Patent Suit Against Microsoft

Motorola has accused Microsoft by stating that the patents used for updating Windows OS, digital video coding, Messenger and Outlook, email technology and others are owned by Motorola. It was also stated that the patents of Motorola were taken advantage of while designing the Windows mobile software, specifically the ones concerning Bing maps and Windows Marketplace.

Microsoft has once again been dragged to court in a suit filed with the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of Florida and the Western District of Wisconsin. The lawsuit is filed by Motorola Mobility. They have accused Microsoft for contravention of sixteen different patents. These patents also include Microsoft's PC and Server software, Windows mobile software and Xbox products.

Motorolla Facing Dual Lawsuits From Apple

This Friday Apple Inc. filed two lawsuits against Motorola and Motorola Mobility in a US federal court, declaring that Motorolla has violated its patents in several Motorola cell phones, including almost the entire Droid line.

In the October 29 filings Apple states to the US District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin -- first reported by the blog PatentlyApple -- Apple is accusing Motorola of infringing on six patents, three of them focused on touchscreens. All the Motorola's Droid, Droid 2, Droid X, Cliq, Cliq XT, BackFlip, Devour A555, Devour i1, and Charm are included in the products that it claims have infringing technology!

Motorola Mobility had already filed suit against Apple, earlier this month, demanding the US District Court in Delaware to give a declaratory judgment stating that Apple had no rights what so ever to sue it for infringing 12 patents in the first place. Further, it said Apple has emphasized in targeting Android-phone maker HTC. Apple itself is seeking a jury trial and considering compensatory damages as Motorola has also filed two patent infringement lawsuits against Apple charging violations in the iPad, iTouch and iPhone products.
