TED Holds Public Audition Online To Chose a Public Speaker

TED, Technology Entertainment and Design Conferences, has just recently put up a first ever contest which gives the opportunity to everyone for trying their luck to sit in the same position as Bill Gates, Al Gore and Jane Goodall. Yes, starting this month a contest will be set up, whose winner will become a TED speaker of 2012 conference. The auditions will be taken online through video-sharing websites like YouTube and Vimeo, giving the largest possible entries from the whole wide world.

This contest clearly represents the theme of this year’s conference i.e. "Full Spectrum." Hence, TED boasts that it has put all their energy in considering all possible methods to reach maximum number of audience for this contest. The website, to be careful, has given few lists of instructions and tips to such large applicants in order to keep them on the right track. It has been advised to include a custom-animated movie or some kind of improve, in fact extra images are being considered to be much appreciated rather than a text-oriented presentation.

Public auditions do not seem so out of the way, or a far reached step, for the organization as it is hoping to have a total of almost 1,300-attendee for the five-day popular most, leaders’ conference. It has already been making several attempts to reach out to more people and be more open since 2006, as it first begat to upload its conferences. Later it starts to translate most of its projects in order to keep a larger audience with variety in it. After the addition of several non-English speakers, the next step to make the conference more reachable for ordinary audience was the launch of a Q&A platform. This step, which was put into practice in February largely, encouraged the huge number of audience for engaging with the cream of the crop TED speakers along with other leaders.
This is still a long step considering all previous efforts of TED, this is the first time the conference will have any public auditions and make a speaker out them. The criteria has also been kept very simple as the users are instructed to upload a video of 1 minute duration on the most common video-sharing platforms like YouTube or Vimeo. This is the only content your application will have, hence should give the whole explanation of your idea, and then finally the link of this video shall be added with the online application of the user.
Eventually the winner of this contest will be given the ultimate reward; the opportunity to give presentations live in New York on May 24, and additionally his audition will also be posted on TED.com. Whereas, another separate winner also be selected for the main-stage presentation at TED2012 in California.
