Facebook Beginning to Try Its Luck in Computer Hardware Industry

Facebook, after mastering the best rank of social network ever, now is taking a step ahead in to computer hardware. Having done successfully revolutionizing social networking after its arrival, Facebook is now collaborating with biggest name in hardware development, like Hewlett Packard Co, Dell Inc, Advanced Micro Devices, and Intel Corp, in order to launch its new "open compute project."
According to the celebrity C.E.O of Facebook Inc., Mark Zuckerberg, this project is targeted to offer exclusive specifications which will produce computers which use less power for the same performance. He claimed that these machines will be purposely engineered for running Internet services; he spoke publically at Facebook's Palo Alto, California headquarters on Thursday, saying that "What we found over time is that a lot of the stuff that the mass manufacturers put out wasn't exactly in line with what we needed and what other social apps needed.”

He shared his intentions that by designing such specifications, the likelihood of increasing availability and demand for the specialized servers will increase. It was announced that Dell will be building the actual servers according to the precisely set technical specifications, along with Synnex Corp acting as the general vendor for these systems. Facebook will itself use these servers in its own first ever custom-built data center, in Prineville, Oregon. Until today, Facebook had been leasing others’ data centers for its infrastructure but now it has opened its own first data center.
The technical infrastructure required for a website, especially one like Facebook, which has even more 30billion photos, videos and all kinds of contents shared by such huge number users every month is very vital. Facebook has stated that these new servers in complete comparison with the previous ones will be at least 38% more energy efficient and will even cost 24%less than the off-the-shelf products which were used to power its services before.
