Twitter To Test A New “Directory” Tab In New Twitter Layout

In September, Twitter Inc. rolled out the new layout of Twitter.com and entitled it as New Twitter, and since then the situation has been pretty calm and quiet on any new feature front. However, now they have planned something new, they are going to start testing a totally new page, on the new top navigation tab called “Directory.”
The area, which Twitter has confirmed their testing among a limited number of users, is basically a way to pull together all of the work they’ve done with features like “Who to follow” and “Similar to”. This new area, which resides to the right of the Messages tab, is all about finding new users to follow.

Previously the tab on this new page only gave the personalized follow suggestions based on the analysis of the people you’re currently following. Quite similar to the “Who to follow” in New Twitter, locate near right pane area. However, the tab is obviously an extension of that. As you will not only be able follow the suggested people, you will also be able to sort them in to lists, from there. This is a very interesting tool, because there are plenty people whom you don’t actually necessarily want to follow but like to keep updated from their tweets sometimes.
The second tab on this page is planned to be “Browse Interests,” which as the name suggests, will recommend the user different user categorized in different lists. There will be around 20 categories like Books, News, Politics, and Technology. Whereas, The third tab in the Directory area is, very familiar, Finding friends via Gmail, LinkedIn, Yahoo, Hotmail, and Messenger tool. Noticeably You will not be able to find Facebook here, this is because the previous Facebook-Twitter tension, also blogged earlier as Twitter CEO got frustrated over Facebook's Non-Cooperation  .
Typical to the New Twitter layout, the Directory area will also feature a right pane with other information.
This is not a new idea, almost all these tools have existed in one way or another before as well, but new is the concept of Twitter testing to accumulate them together in one area front and center in the main top nav.
