‘Data Loss Issues’ - Apple Releases Iphoto '11 Update

Apple released the version 9.0.1 update for iPhoto ‘11 that eliminates the data loss problem. In order to upgrade iPhoto, it is necessary to upgrade the existing iPhoto Library so it can well-matched the new software. The size of this upgrade is 35.4MB.

Some users have faced the data loss problem while upgrading from an older version of iPhoto to iPhoto '11. According to Yahoo! News, reports included losing data from a few images to entire libraries. A few also went on complaining about the lost metadata and events during this upgrade process. In response, Apple considers and states the issue to be “extremely rare”.

The full iPhoto version 9.0.1 update description reads, "This update addresses issues that, in extremely rare cases, could result in data loss when upgrading a library from an earlier version of iPhoto."

Apple has added a support document in the update that recognizes and states guidelines to avoid the data loss problem. In addition to installing iPhoto version 9.0.1, the support article advises that all iPhoto users must backup their library before upgrading to iPhoto '11 in case, it surprisingly quits.
