Google Hotpot merges with Google Places

It was announced back in November, 2010, that Google Hotpot service was ambiguously suspended; it was either embedded in Google Places or still retained its title and could be considered a separate entity. It has now been revealed that Google’s Hotpot service will not only be extended to contain millions of users in 47 different languages but the 8th April announcement stated that Hotpot will "gradually" become an integral part of its already widely used product, Google Places.

Google Places was previously used to search, rate, and review only the local businesses while keeping an uncomplicated user interface. However, now with the integration of Google Hotpot, the users will also be able to do all those things with "restaurants". All the users will be able to rate and see the average ratings awarded from other users who have been to that restaurant.

Similar to the method of Places, now the new restaurants listed in Google Places will also collect users’ opinion of places. Further, the additive feature of asking your tastes and automatically recommending Places will now also have Restaurants which the user might like to dine in or do takeaway. Since the taste of users is highly influenced by the taste of their friends, Places will also evaluate the tastes of friends of the user, to make better recommendations.
The interface of Google Places which was tiled before is now being rearranged in the shape of series of Place cards, each representing a different kind of businesses in the area searched. Every Place card will have not only a picture and the name of the business but also some additive available information like their address or type of cuisine they offer along with the typical average rating. Features of ‘save it for later’ and inform Places that the user is ‘not interested’ are also enhanced. Clicking on a business name takes the user to its Place page, containing further detail, including reviews and comment of other users.
Once the user has visited, or has ever visited the place in advance, it can easily log its own opinion along with a click to give ratings through stars from zero to five. After successfully rated the business, the Place card automatically flips over allowing the user to add further review, tip or any additive information. All these features of Google Places will be extended to cater all Google Hotpot restaurants as they get embedded in Google Places.
