Late Hugh Martin |
Hugh Martin, the composer-songwriter who had added to his portfolio the lyrics of epic songs like "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "The Trolley Song," passed away on this Friday, while he was 96. The news was reported by his niece Suzanne Hanners, who also stated that the death was caused by natural causes while he was at his home in Encinitas, Calif.
Martin has also scored couple nominations, one for the category of best original song at the Academy Awards of 1944 for the song "The Trolley Song" along with the song "Pass the Peace Pipe" from "Good News" in 1947. He later took his time to list down his life autobiography, which was published in 2010, titled "Hugh Martin: The Boy Next Door."
Martin is now survived by his brother Gordon Martin along with his nephews and nieces.
