California Goes Through Roads Closures, Amid Flooding, Snow, Mudflows Due the Heavy Rains

Southern California went through several heavy storms this Monday morning which ended up being record breaking totals for the area. Several roads had to be kept closed at the time; even busy roads like Interstate 5 through the Grapevine had also to be blocked due to snow accumulation.  Pacific Coast Highway at Point Mugu was also disallowed to have any traffic though an alternate stretch of PCH in Malibu was reopened.
After several hours when the situation actually settled, these lanes, including Grapevine, were all reopened and traffic was restored by California Highway Patrol.  Unfortunately, some areas of L.A. County were left with the after effects of the storm especially Van Nuys and Newhall, were more than six inches of rain was poured. Canoga Park recorded 4.7 inches; Beverly Hills, 4.1; and UCLA, 3.2.
The main storm has actually drifted out of the area after the damage but National Weather Service has still suspected few showers till another storm expected to arrive on Wednesday. According to the spokesman at Bob Hope Airport, Southwest Airlines had to face many problems due the weather at Burbank which lead to the cancellation of their 16 flights on Sunday along with more than eight flights getting diverted from the area; these were coupled with innumerable airlines which went on long delays.
During the storm which hit on Sunday, more than 90,000 residences and offices of Southland had to face black outs as about 40,000 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers had no electricity at all. Moreover 49,808 other customers of Southern California Edison also fell victim to black outs that day, though most of them belonged to outside Los Angeles and Orange counties. It was reported, by a spokeswomen, that causes behind these black outs was very typical, including downed wires and tree branches getting tangled in wires due the wind and rain.
