In the middle of the on-going situation of Egypt, some unknown looters took advantage of the situation entering into the Egyptian Museum while the anti-government protest was passing by the place on this Friday. They carelessly destroyed two prestigious Pharaonic mummies, as the two renowned archaeologists reported the news to the state television.
This museum is located in central Cairo, having one of the world's most exclusive collections of Pharaonic antiquities. However its location is strategically important for the uprising as the headquarters of the ruling National Democratic Party is in exact neighbors. Even earlier than the incident, few protesters had set the building on fire, flames were still lightening as of early Saturday.
While reporting the incident chairman of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Zahi Hawass stated that "Egyptian citizens tried to prevent them and were joined by the tourism police, but some (looters) managed to enter from above and they destroyed two of the mummies.” He also claimed that looters did not only damage the prestigious mummies but they also ransacked the ticket office of the museum.
