Appeal Of A 16-Year-Old For Compensation In A Copyright Infringement Case Gets Declined

This Monday Supreme Court denied an appeal made by teenager, Whitney, from Texas she is being trialed for downloading music over the internet without having to pay for it. Whitney Harper confessed that she had used one of the file-sharing networks to download and share three dozen songs.
16-year-old Whitney, had appealed in the Supreme Court hoping for some leniency in the sum money she owes to the music companies, majorly Maverick Recording Co., to be reduced as she gave the argument of not-knowing that what she did amounted to copyright infringement.

Leaked US Cables Makes Very Sensitive International Allegations

This Sunday, several documents of State Department were leaked referring to a hidden world of secretive international diplomacy, involving surprising statements from several well-known world leaders and specific U.S. pressure strategies targeting few highlighted countries, such as Afghanistan, Iran and North Korea.
These classified diplomatic cables were published at an online ‘whistle-blower’ website, WikiLeaks, and were reported by several different news organizations based in United States and Europe endowing with very critical evaluation of range of foreign leaders, from U.S. allies such as Germany and Italy to even the nations like Libya, Iran and Afghanistan.

US Authorities Now Begin a Mass Shut Down Of Websites Involved In Copyright Infringement

Recently US authorities have been taking action against many websites offering counterfeit goods and pirated music, as five months ago a crackdown began on sites offering movie downloads. Allegedly, a website which shares information about popular BitTorrent file-sharing protocol called Torrent Freak, published list of the websites where are suppose to be targeted, of more than 70 sites.
A visitor to any such site which has been shut down by the authorities, display the message: "This site has been seized by ICE -- Homeland Security Investigations, pursuant to a seizure warrant issued by a United States District Court." It further elaborates that copyright infringement is a proper federal crime punishable by a penalty of five years imprisonment and/or a 250,000-dollar fine, whereas even trafficking in counterfeit goods may even lead upto 10-years sentence of imprisonment with a two million dollars fine.
